Noorderzon makes way for European Capital of Culture 2018

New dates Noorderzon: August 23 - September 02 2018
In 2018, for one time only, Noorderzon will take place one week later to make way for the programme of European Capital of Culture 2018: Leeuwarden-Fryslân. Noorderzon is proud of this unique event at our 'neighbors' and would like to give the northern public the opportunity to experience both Noorderzon and the European Capital of Culture programme during August. The intended dates of the festival were 16 to 26 August; these will be Thursday 23 August to Sunday 2 September 2018.
The Netherlands have been allowed to deliver a Capital of Culture twice in the past 35 years (Amsterdam in 1987 and Rotterdam in 2001). Now, 17 years later, this unique event takes place close to our festival. In order to give everyone in the north and abroad the opportunity to fully enjoy this, once only, Noorderzon shifts to a week later. Noorderzon thus closes the summer holidays of the north region, which also ends on 2 September.
Leeuwarden-Fryslân is the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2018, next to Valletta in Malta. For a year they show how Frisians celebrate life, including on 17, 18, 19 August The Giants of the French street theater company Royal Deluxe.
