Sarah Vanhee | Unforetold

Brilliant light in the darkness: seven small beings on adult issues
Is the darkness something to be afraid of? Not for Belgian Sarah Vanhee, one of the most brilliant theatre makers of her generation. She is returning to Noorderzon for the fourth time in a row: outspoken and fearless, unique and surprising. This year she will be giving the opening speech and bringing Unforetold, her most recent theatre project, to the festival. While Vanhee received great acclaim in 2017 for The Making of Justice, a movie made with seven convicted killers, this time she is giving the stage in Unforetold to seven ‘small beings’. In this performance, Vanhee queries children aged between 8 and 11 about darkness. Candidly and untouched by the often rigid thinking and actions of adults, they create an entirely new logic, both verbally and non-verbally, which wonderfully illustrates how dark the light and especially how light the dark can be.
