Tyrannical marionette in ludicrous spectacle
The wonderfully spine-tingling viewer’s and maker’s performance Dans L’atelier by the Belgian puppet theatre specialists of TOF Théâtre is a little and ludicrous spectacle. Prepare yourself for 15 bizarre minutes in this surrealist puppet workshop. You will be privy to a delicious peek into the world of both puppets and puppeteers, with everything revolving around a certain marionette in the making. It’s a half-baked yet haywire puppet for whom everything goes wrong. Although far from done, the marionette decides to take its fate and strings into its own hands and wrap things up. But then the wind, snow, a saw, styrofoam and the puppeteers revolt. Battling the elements, the material and the ‘oppressors’, the puppet sees only one way to ensure its existence: total tyranny.

“The writing of this show is dense, rich in discoveries, with never a dull moment. The madness, while contained in the beginning, builds to a crescendo and reaches a literally explosive finale. A must.”

- A. Deb., L’Avenier
