Surrealist diptych shatters taboo on suicide
One Million People And Me is a multidisciplinary diptych about a subject which perhaps is the greatest taboo in the world: suicide. Every year more people die from suicide than from murders and war combined. In the first half, One Million People, in a surrealist urban audio tour theatre maker Veerle van Overloop confronts you with the absurd fragility of existence. The second part, And Me, is a disarming cinematic portrait of eight ambitious young adults, which may or may not be a piece of fiction. Using photos and excerpts from photographer Edouard Levé’s books Suicide and Autoportrait, together with dancer and choreographer Adam Peterson, Van Overloop depicts their quest in life. Thanks to their honest approach, the makers succeed in doing something quite out of the ordinary: they open up a taboo subject to discussion.

This performance pulled out of Station Noord, the new talent development programme of the northern Netherlands, receiving support from Noorderzon, Grand Theatre, Club Guy & Roni, NNT and Oerol
