New music for silent movies

The men who make up KINETOPHONE have been writing music for silent movies for a full six years now. They also perform it themselves, live below the screen. Although only a trio, René Duursma, Thomas van den Berg and Sebastiaan Wiering play synthesizers, electric guitars, cello, keyboards, melodica, samples and percussion, alongside the vocals. KINETOPHONE transform old movies into an audiovisual experience that amuses and surprises in equal measure. At Noorderzon the band will accompany two silent films: on 22 August Un Chien Andalou (1929, 18 min) by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali and on Friday 26 August La Coquille et le Clergyman (1928, 38 min) by Germaine Dulac.
