Tank and the Bangas
Poetry with soul from New Orleans
Prepare yourself for a whirlwind of rhythmic soul, funk, R&B and theatre: Tank and The Bangas will be shaking things up on Het Dok on our second day of the festival. Singer and poet Tarriona “Tank” Ball keeps her Bangas on a roll with a memorable performance, in which she raps, whispers and sometimes belts out her poetic lyrics. With roots in gospel and the world of spoken word, it seems as if Tank is multiple vocalists wrapped into one: sometimes as jazzy as Billie Holiday, at other times sharp as Missy Elliot or sweet as Aaliyah. The Bangas have fully mastered various musical styles and offer the perfect accompaniment to the singer, as striking in appearance as she is in sound. The band from New Orleans is paying a visit to Europe this summer, especially to play a Lowlands weekend, Pukkelpop and … Noorderzon!
‘The band combines R&B with hip-hop’s poetry and rollercoaster storytelling, with a flair and alchemy that could only come from New Orleans..’
