Fiction documentary about the individual behind the murderer
In movies criminals are often cool characters. But in daily life we view murderers as monsters we would preferably see punished as hard as possible. Where does this strange divide between fiction and reality come from? This is one of the themes that emerge in the remarkable fiction documentary The Making of Justice by Sarah Vanhee. In the film she is working on the script for a crime picture about seven prisoners who – just like the protagonist in their movie – are guilty of murder. The viewer can only guess at what is fact and what is fiction in their stories. Vanhee plays an exciting game with the way we view convicts. Do we first see the crime, or the individual behind it first?
