Ode to Theater te Water
Theater te Water: who hasn't heard of the floating theatre! A sailing theatre company, unique to the Netherlands. What began in 1982 as the dream of one young man, Just Vink, nearly become a household word over the course of 35 years. Late last year Theater te Water stopped performing. This inspired film maker Saskia Jeulink (Stichting Beeldlijn), a former Theater te Water performer, to create a portrait of this phenomenon, packed with atmosphere and social commitment. Using Theater te Water as starting point, she draws connections to issues such as the economisation of the cultural system, the changing Zeitgeist and developments in the sociocultural life in the small towns and villages. Yet at the same time it is an ode to the ambition, ideals and imagination of director Vink and performers from the early days, such as Alina Kiers, Frank den Hollander, Bert Visscher and Arno van der Heyden, right up to the youngest generation of actors, in their twenties today.
