Soundsofmusic and Noorderzon bring world-class pianist to Groningen for two concerts
Canadian world-class pianist Vicky Chow will be performing twice at the Lutherse Kerk during Noorderzon, presenting two different projects. Her expressive and nuanced music has been described by the press as ‘brilliant’ (New York Times), while she has been pronounced ‘a new star of contemporary music’ (Los Angeles Times). She is the pianist with the renowned Bang on a Can All-Stars, and is travelling the globe playing brand-new piano pieces to great acclaim.
Vicky Chow plays Glass
During the Sunday afternoon concert, the focus will be on Etudes by the godfather of minimal music, Philip Glass. The Etudes are enchanting piano pieces which for the longest time ever were only performed by the legendary maestro himself. However, those days are over, and the performance of his piano work by Vicky Chow bring the master to mind and are among the most memorable encountered anywhere.
* It is possible to purchase a combination ticket for the two Vicky Chow concerts. For only € 20, you have access to both the concert on Sunday afternoon (18 Aug Vicky Chow plays Glass) and that on Monday evening (19 Aug Surface Image).

"But in Chow’s hands, the riffs-for-days feel can call to mind other swing references; at times, her playing conjures a vision of some vintage piano genius like Art Tatum coming back to life and getting high on post-minimalism."
