Soundsofmusic and Noorderzon bring world-class pianist to Groningen for two concerts
Canadian world-class pianist Vicky Chow will be performing twice at the Lutherse Kerk during Noorderzon, presenting two different projects. Her expressive and nuanced music has been described by the press as ‘brilliant’ (New York Times), while she has also been pronounced ‘a new star of contemporary music’ (Los Angeles Times). She is the pianist with the renowned Bang on a Can All-Stars, and is travelling the globe playing brand-new piano pieces to great acclaim.

One grand piano, forty loudspeakers
Surface Image is simply a masterful piece in which electronica and piano engage in a memorable relationship. The composition was written by sound artist Tristan Perich. Surrounded by forty loudspeakers, Vicky Chow sits alone at the grand piano where digital and analogue sounds converge: her virtuoso piano and the 1-bit electronica engage in dialogue and create a harmonious entity. This unforgettable experience will be the final episode of her Groningen visit.

* It is possible to purchase a combination ticket for the two Vicky Chow concerts. For only € 20, you have access to both the concert on Sunday afternoon (18 Aug Vicky Chow plays Glass) and that on Monday evening (19 Aug Surface Image).

Vicky Chow plays Glass

"With its overlapping patterns, static harmonies, and relentless repetition—not to mention its unbroken, hour-plus length—Surface Image might easily be seen as a 21st-century companion to the minimalist classics of the 1960s."
