An absurd take on tourism and reality

Authority Micro-Mass Mobilization (MMM) is going to gear Groningen up for mass tourism. After years of the earthquake issue not being taken seriously, Groningers finally want to be recognised and seen again. Just as Groningen was pumped empty for decades through gas extraction, MMM is now pumping the region full of tourism.

During Noorderzon, Authority MMM therefore presents the very first official PREMIUM City Tour of Groningen. Guided by certified tourism coordinators, you'll discover the most important sights, highlights, and unique photo opportunities of the Noorderplantsoen.

This is only the first step. Authority MMM is currently working on a future-proof programme for structural visitor growth. Our goal is clear: put Groningen on the map, on a massive scale.

Buitenkans
Buitenkans is Noorderzon's new development track. Driven by artistic curiosity, courage, and the need to explore what a performance can be outside the walls of a theatre, we launched an Open Call in February, which resulted in a huge number of applications. Three makers were selected and given the space to develop new ideas.

You'll experience the results of this track during the festival: three new performances that use public space as their playing field and actively seek out the unexpected. Work in progress, made for a curious audience and a festival environment where encounter, surprise, and experimentation take centre stage. Where and when? You'll find out as you go!

About the artist

Micha van der Molen (2002, Drenthe) is an autonomous designer. Micha creates large-scale installations in which he questions how people relate to their environment, and how that environment, often shaped by human constructions, in turn influences us. His fascination lies with the absurd: situations or designs that have become so self-evident that we no longer notice how strange or uncomfortable they actually are.

Drawing on personal observations, Micha focuses on recognisable elements that symbolise societal issues. He takes these out of their context and enlarges or shrinks them. In doing so, he creates a reconstruction of reality in which alienation and wonder come together.
