Comfort for life's rough edges

Desolaas performs Dutch-language "band-aid pop', built around rich vocal harmonies. Their songs explore conflict, loss, unwanted intimacy, social media, and the search for meaning. Dark, sultry, melancholic, and comforting all at once, the music is carried by a warm, intimate sound. The band consists of Anne van Slageren (vocals/guitar), Welmoed Wijma (vocals/guitar), Rense van Slageren (drums), and Manon Barendsen (bass).

Desolaas recorded their debut album with producer Frans Hagenaars in Amsterdam. The sessions also marked a return to familiar ground: when Hagenaars' Excelsior studio was still located near Muiden, two members of Desolaas – Anne van Slageren and Welmoed Wijma – had recorded an album there with Over the Moon back in 2000.

For their Noorderzon performance, the band will present a more intimate version of their live show. The drums make way for atmospheric soundscapes by Arman Armani, while José Timmer joins on backing vocals.
