Join the photographer on a walk

Photographer Sabina Theijs leads you through the city to some surprising encounters. Photos of her project Airness are displayed at seven locations between Groningen Station and Noorderplantsoen. Since 2023, she has followed the participants of the annual Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu, Finland. What compels someone to travel thousands of miles to perform for only 60 seconds? With every step and stop on this walk you will understand the competitive air guitarists increasingly better. Be prepared to be inspired.

About the artist

Sabina Theijs is a documentary photographer, photography coach and co-founder of De Fotolocatie photo academy in Groningen. To her, the power of photography lies in the ability to freeze a seemingly fleeting moment by the press of a button. Thus, a photo becomes a time capsule that transports the spectator to another place or time. In her long term documentary photo projects she focuses on the connection between human beings, showing tight-knit communities in a perpetually transformative social and / or urban landscape.
